Let's first take up the topic of fractions, because without it you can't calculate or determine inch dimensions and inch threads.
For those who don't know anything about fractions:
Imagine a pizza, it is a whole piece untouched and if you cut over it with the pizza roller you can share it.
When working with inch screws, we recommend purchasing a thread gauge and a caliper. Here is the link to the thread gauge
Without these measuring devices it is pointless and also too risky and, above all, inaccurate
And how big or long is 1 inch? 1" = 25.4mm Both diameter and length are measured in inches.”
Length? Where is the measurement taken?
We have provided you with 3 illustrations in the pictures.
For hexagon socket and pan head screws, for example. The length is measured from below the head, at the so-called shaft
For countersunk screws, however, over the entire length

UNC = UNF = fine thread
What does a number like: ¼ - 20 x 1 mean? The 1st number or the fraction indicates the diameter in the case ¼"
The second number in this case, 20, tells you how many threads on 1" this thread has
And the 3rd number in this case 1 is the length of the screw measured in inches.
There are other thread pitches than UNC and UNF, but we don't need to go into them in normal use, as they are generally not used every day in vehicle construction strength
The tensile strength is usually referred to and desired.
See example:
Grade 2 corresponds approximately to 413N/mm²Grade 5 corresponds approximately to 723N/mm²Grade 8 corresponds approximately to 1034N/mm²
